Time for an Update!

June 11, 2014 in News Blog

updateIt’s time for me to start working on an update to the “Architectural Design with SketchUp” book. While I already have several ideas for changes, I would love to hear from my current readers what they think should be changed, which new content should be added etc. Feel free to reply in the comments below this post.

  1. I got an email response from you, but couldn’t figure out how to post a reply except here:
Re the ruby code editor: It was my misunderstanding: I have been using it without trying the execute function: just cut and paste into the console. When I tried the execute button I assumed it was going to get line by line feedback in the console.

    • I see. The editor just executes everything as a block. If you want to have breaks and stepped execution, then you have to link SketchUp with an external editor using this:
      https://github.com/SketchUp/sketchup-ruby-debugger

In my editor, a good approach to debugging is to add a UI.messagebox where you want a break or use the =begin and =end terms to comment out large pieces of code. Also keep the Ruby console open at the side.
