Welcome to sketchupfordesign.com! This site is maintained by me (Alex Schreyer) and serves as a companion to the book “Architectural Design with SketchUp”. It is not affiliated with John Wiley & Sons or Trimble Inc.

How Does This Site Work?

This site is meant to be a home for my SketchUp tutorials and news blog posts as well as an interactive companion to my book. You can use it in many ways. For example, you can:

  • Read the Tutorials and News section to see my latest posts about SketchUp and learn more about the book. I typically post announcements under the News category and any how-to’s under Tutorials. You can find posts by topic if you follow the menu items or tag links that show up in the sidebar on relevant post pages. Feel free to leave comments, of course.
  • Browse the Book Companion Pages and find interactive 3D models, tutorial videos, updated links, further reading and some freebies.
  • You can also read the most recent SketchUp News and Tutorials from all over the web (i.e. by others). This page is updated every hour and shows blog posts, discussion items, and SketchUp posts on Twitter.

Do I Need To Register?

You do not need to register on this site to access any content on it. However, if you want to submit comments you will need to log in or register using any of the available social media links that show up on the comment form.

Where are Groups, Members, etc.?

An earlier version of this site had those features. For a variety of reasons, I decided to disable the pre-2018 “social network” (BuddyPress) functionality on this site. It wasn’t used much and required a lot of upkeep. You can discuss your work on the pages and post comments on this site or in one of the SketchUp forums out there.
