Attractor-Based Scaling with Scale By Tools

Attractor-Based Scaling with Scale By Tools

A new feature of my Scale By (Image/Attractors/Equation) Tools SketchUp extension is the ability to transform (scale/rotate/move) objects by proximity to other objects ("attractors"). Not sure what this means? Check out the tutorial video above that explains the basic functionality. You can learn more about this extension on its page and the reference manual. Fun with Coding in SketchUp (for All Ages)

Fun with Coding in SketchUp (for All Ages)

In this video tutorial I show how you can use Ruby coding in SketchUp to have some fun: Create 3D geometry, draw with code, bend the software to your will... No need for previous coding experience. This can even serve as an introductory "learn to code" curriculum. Tutorial Video https://youtu.be/BlC7eerfS1U?list=PLxUo4IvucruefSR-dwEs7pHAjQZgoOhw0 This is a free sample instructional video from the book "Architectural Design with SketchUp: 3D Modeling, Extensions, BIM, Rendering, Making, and Scripting" (2nd Edition). I discuss this topic more in detail in that book's Chapter 7. Want more of these videos? Creating Shells and Surfaces Using Extensions

Creating Shells and Surfaces Using Extensions

In this video I cover how to create shells in SketchUp using different methods. Lofting can create very elaborate shapes and fortunate for us there are several extensions available to do the task easily. Curviloft, the extension presented in this video, may be the best example (and the easiest one to use). Making a 3D-Printable Patterned Panel (with Scale By Tools)

Making a 3D-Printable Patterned Panel (with Scale By Tools)

This video tutorial revisits a parametric 3D printable panel that I created a while ago using plain Ruby code. Since the underlying code is now included in my Scale By Tools extension, I used it to re-create the same panel. Watch the video to see how you can very easily create the same design (or whatever else you want) with it. You can then 3D print it, laser cut, CNC cut, or use a waterjet cutter to create this panel out of many materials. Creating Parallel-Projection Printouts in SketchUp

Creating Parallel-Projection Printouts in SketchUp

In this video Tutorial I cover a basic skill for fabrication in SketchUp: parallel-projection printing. This allows you to get flat-shot views out of SketchUp's 3D environment that you can then use for cutouts, laser-cutting, CNC and more. While this can be accomplished easier using SketchUp Pro's LayOut software, it is possible to create these from right inside SketchUp.
